Aside from a fifth place finish at the National Championships, Michael had a great 2011 season.  Before the nationals, he sliced 0.03 off his 100-metre personal best, improving it to 9.94 seconds.  Right after the nationals, the 2005 World Championships runner-up was even faster with a run of 9.88 in Switzerland.

In 2004, Michael matched his older brother Lindel by reaching the Olympic semi-finals.  Four years later in Beijing, he went all the way to the final and placed sixth.

Jamaica's relay efforts always benefit from his vast experience and speed.  He anchored Jamaica to fourth at the 2005 World Championships and stormed the second leg in 2008 when Jamaica set a world record and won the gold medal; in 2006, he was part of the Commonwealth Games champion team.

Michael is part of the MVP stable and he was a schoolboy champion sprinter at Wolmer's Boys School.  During his college days at Texas Christian University, he won the 2003 Pan-American title.
